Under The Blood Moon
Under The Blood Moon
Spiritual author Kalia Kelmenson wrote:
“Blood moons and their spiritual meaning are a reminder that there is immense power and intelligence that can be found in the shadows if we only have the courage to explore with discernment and free from judgment.”
After witnessing an array of various moons in 2022, I too felt inspired by the blood moon and delved into the ancestor’s interpretation of such events.
The appearance of a lunar eclipse creates an opportunity to explore that which is usually unseen.
When I started this painting, the last blood moon in the UK was in 2019, a prominent year for me as this was the year my mother passed away and I also became pregnant.
It was a bittersweet year and one that evoked the extreme dark and joy within my emotions.
Many ancient civilizations would have declared the lunar blood to be the reasons for these polarities.
In Under The Blood Moon, the darker aspects of life's experiences, the sorrow, the anger, the guilt, and the engulfing grief, are emotions exist but are not widely acknowledged in our culture.
But by raising these suppressed feelings, this painting aims to heal from the root cause of emotions.
I have used dark tones and silhouettes to create the sense of shadows and unexplored and grief personified by the engulfed moon.
But, in using enriching turquoise, pinks and greens, the light is intensified, dabbles of light are present and although dim, 3 candles light the way.
So, in honouring both the light and darkness, that make up this reality/illusion of our human existence, grief is transposed to a deeper and more profound place by relating it to the cosmic cycles.
