Botanicals is a celebration of life in the winter months, embracing the beauty of domestic house plants in an original expressionist style, infused with a touch of semi-Fauvist vibrancy.

These cherished house plants, like silent family members, bring warmth and joy to our homes during the colder seasons.

The rubber plant, a muse during the 2020 lockdown, symbolizes resilience and growth witnessed in the quiet corners of my living room.

On the other hand, the Heartleaf philodendron is a tribute to my late mother, a plant that continues to thrive, echoing her spirit and enduring love.

Each individual plant leaf and house plant flower I drew comes together in a harmonious image, a unique presentation of nature through experimental perspectives and contradictory colours.

Symbolic motifs such as candles and a criss-cross design provide continuity in the series, weaving a tapestry of memories and emotions.

The narrative unfolds as winter darkness is lifted by the vibrant berries and dormant flowers of exotic house plants, blooming anew.

In this tale, even in darkness, there are signs of birth and reproduction, a metaphor for resilience and hope.

Inspired by the ever-changing seasons in gardens, I appreciate the subtle shifts that inform the aesthetics of my paintings.

Botanicals is not just a piece of art; it's a visual ode to life, growth, and the perpetual beauty found in nature's cycles.

The original was exhibited at Foxlowe Arts Centre, Leek, Staffordshire for 2 months. It was also exhibited in "The Curator's Collection" exhibition at Arts Keele, Chapters Gallery February 2022 and most recently at All Saints Church for the "To be or To Burgeon" art exhibition from November- December 2022.
